Most diseases today are caused by an unhealthy dieting and the lack of nutrient-rich calories needed by our body which help our immune system. Selecting the right kind of food to eat and eating them in the right amount definitely help us to stay in shape.
By avoiding processed and refined foods, your energy levels will increase and this would help you to avoid stress. Getting the right kind of food enables our bodies to properly regulate the blood sugar levels. Eating the right kind of food may increase also the body metabolism and this would be one way to lose weight and to maintain the desired body weight.
If you are to eat animal protein, the best would be from poultry and fish. Avoid red meat like pork and beef which contain more unhealthy fats. Processed meat is definitely a no-no.
For carbohydrates, the good ones are the so called complex carbohydrates comes from vegetables and whole grains like oatmeal. Avoid white bread and pasta.
Many weight loss gurus say that to lose weight one needs to eat several small meals a day, with the reason that by doing so it would increase body metabolism. I don’t recommend that. It’s not healthy to eat several meals a day; that would overburden our digestive system. Eating 3 meals a day is enough. But remember to eat a good breakfast and not skip it. Also eat a light and early dinner.
The main problem in trying to lose weight is that most of us eat more that what we really need. Our food intake must be less than what our body use up; that is the right way to lose weight.
There are many reasons people give for not eating breakfast and, among them are not having enough time, not feeling like eating, no readily available breakfast food in the house, or for weight loss. Various research from different countries however, have shown that skipping breakfast make people gain weight instead of the intended weight loss and that skipping breakfast is a contributing factor in obesity.
But why does skipping breakfast causes weight gain? The body responds to not eating food for many hours by “slowing down,” decreasing its metabolic rate and burning fewer calories to conserve energy. Skipping breakfast is bad for health because people who skip it tend to eat unhealthy snacks and/or eat more at lunch or at dinner and graze throughout the day; with slowed metabolism and with more food eaten, more calories is retained by the body resulting in weight increase.
Now, we should be wiser knowing that skipping breakfast is not good for weight loss. But besides the benefit of breakfast for the purpose of losing weight, breakfast has many other benefits.
What then are the benefits of eating breakfast? Why eat a healthy breakfast?
A breakfast high in nutrition is good for our health. A healthy breakfast replenishes our body’s supply of glucose which comes from the breakdown of food in the body. Glucose in the blood is our body’s main source of energy. The brain in particular needs a fresh supply of glucose each day and it is the brain’s main source of energy. Our muscles also rely on a fresh supply of blood glucose throughout the day for physical activity. Eating breakfast improves the total daily nutrient intake and is associated with being more productive and efficient in the morning hours. People who eat breakfast tend to experience better concentration, problem solving ability, strength and endurance. A healthy breakfast that provides good nutrition is not only good for physical fitness but for mental fitness as well.
Those who eat breakfast do better at work and school. People who eat breakfast are more alert and do better on tests than people who skip breakfast. Eating breakfast helps improve memory and aids learning, and makes us better able to concentrate in learning and retain new information. Conversely, a hungry child can be irritable, disinterested, and apathetic when confronted with a difficult task. Undoubtedly, adults need breakfast as much as kids do.
Eating a healthy breakfast in the morning enhances our metabolism and sets the tone for our body for the rest of the day. Eating a healthy breakfast would jump-start your day, give you energy and can help you eat in moderation at lunch and dinner. A breakfast that provide good nutrition, high in fiber and low in fat (e.g., oatmeal with skim milk, low-fat yogurt; if you like add a fruit), may make a major contribution to a total reduced food intake for the day. Breakfast also helps boosts our body’s metabolism so it is able to more quickly break down the foods eaten later in the day, helping us to lose weight.

Controversial as it may sound, but there is really little difference between dieting for men and dieting for women. Perhaps an element of scale, whereby a marginally overweight man usually doesn’t even notice, or if it is pointed out to him, just wears looser clothing and grows a stubble. Of course the stubble option to look cooler and thinner isn’t really on for a woman, and the ‘marginally’ overweight issue is one of grave concern and anxiety.
Ordinarily the stress of a few unwanted pounds would lead to a stimulated feedback whereby unconscious fasting and food avoidance leeds to weight loss. Equally, such stress could and does lead to increased chocolate consumption which feeds back in the wrong direction. This also brings into force a little-known effect which means that every calorie consumed whilst known that it is being consumed actually counts for two calories. One which is metabolised and one which becomes fat faster than a politician can use a black marker pen on his expenses claim. A diet plan is the solution. Daily, weekly, whatever, as long as it is a plan and you stick to it.
The trouble with diet plans in the past is that this eat-one-get-one-free calorie rule still counts; the only way to be truly free from this freakinsh truism of nature is to ignore completely your total colorific intake. This then reduces weight loss to a popular physical sciences question of whether the fat is actually there or not. In other words, you may appear thinner, but the scales will still indicate that you are overweight. Not looking at the scales, and simply thinking yourself thinner, whilst eating goodly amounts of foods you like is much more likely to work.
Exercising helps, but if that is out of the question, there is nothing wrong with the odd weight-loss pill. That said, if you can get placebos and believe they will work, then that is better than actually taking real drugs. Starting to smoke may also work, as that will kill you at some point, although that is an extreme way of trying to lose weight. So son’t do that, and if you smoke already, stop now.
More practically, the single best place to start losing weight is with being honest with yourself. How? Simples…when you are on your own for any length of time, change out of your loose clothing and wear something that used to fit OK. You might end up with stomach ache, and if so, undo the belt and/or button or whatever. This exercise will demonstrate that however thin you think you are or want to be, you probably aren’t. If this sounds a bit psychic, it’s not because if you wear the clothes for the thinner you and feel OK, you wouldn’t be doing it in private would you?
The next thing to consider, before going on a diet plan, is what ‘goodies’ you eat that you don’t need to. Well, that’s just about everything outside of a normal meal. Every chocolate bar, every packet of crisps (or chips), every bun or sugary drink. All of it. Literally, all of it all the time. You can have some back when you’re thinner, but if you want to start losing weight, lose the junk food.
That might sound hard, but it isn’t anywhere near as hard a actually dieting. And magically, the inverse eat-one-get-one-free calorie rule comes into play. For every one of those chocolate calories you didn’t eat, a whole other calorie disappears for free. This means, that you lose more than one chocolate bar in fat for every chocolate bar you don’t eat.
See, weight loss is easy. There’s one down side though, and without wishing to return to the smoking analogy, it does have relevance. Being overweight has a certain gravity to it. And gravity draws heavy objects together, and then they sort of feed around one another and seeing as everyone’s fat and everyone’s feeding, everyone feels in their comfort zone. As soon as you stop eating with the in-crowd, you won’t be in the in crowd and that will be uncomfortable. Like non-smokers really very rarely have a close group of smoker friends; if you lose weight, you will increasingly seek out thinner friends and this is an issue.
It is also an issue when you’re in a transition state, and your marginally (OK let’s go for it: massively) fat friends are passing out the buns or the ecclairs or the brandy twirls, and you say ‘no.’ To be clear, you will have to feign illness for some time. Those of us who’ve had kids will remember this effect well when you’re out with your mates, pregnant but not admitting it. You know who you are.
This is the same thing, only it’s fat not alcohol you need to avoid.
Now, although you will lose weight doing any or all of the above (unless you are pregnant); you will wish to seek out a suitable diet plan, of which there are many, some better than others.
Never let your kids skip breakfast especially If you want to prevent obesity in children. Breakfast speeds up your metabolism by about 10% and this boost can last all day . Your child’s breakfast must be nutritious and set them up for the day. An excellent choice is oats in the form of oatmeal or porridge.
Porridge oats are an excellent breakfast for children. Oat provide slow release energy and water soluble fiber and will keep your child energetic and in high spirits . Oat discourage breaktime snacks by providing bulk and energy
Never buy oats oatmeal or muesli with added sugar if your children have a sweet tooth add some fruit
If you’re looking for oatmeal with a little more texture, you can try out the steel-cut oat variety. Although this type does take a little longer to cook, I find that it is well worth the wait. They have a somewhat chewier texture and heartier flavor than rolled oats. Once you try this variety, you may never go back.
If your having trouble with late night binges, have a bowl of oatmeal instead. This will help squash your cravings. Not to mention, you’ll be avoiding any junk food or empty calories.
If your looking to prevent obesity in your children I suggest you start by giving a good health bowl of porridge, oatmeal or muesli every morning. It’s a fine way to start the day and install a lifelong habit will have many benefits throughout life. Remember your child learn by example and having you join them with a healthy bowl of oats every morning will help build a lifelong habit that will bring many benefits for years to come. It won’t do you any harm either.
Eating is an essential aspect of our friendly gatherings. Unfortunately, many foods are packed with salt, sugar and fat. The good news is that whether you are attempting to lose weight or simply keep your weight, there are things you can do to stay on track while eating with family and friends. Here are some specific weight loss tips that can help:
Portion Your Plate Fill ¾ of your plate with proteins and non-starchy veggies (such as: green beans, squash, carrots, brocolli, tomatoes ) and fill the other ¼ with high calorie foods.
Size Matters Use a table spoon to serve higher calorie foods instead of the traditional serving spoon. This will aid with better portion control.
Plan Ahead Plan ahead for other parties. Think about the place you will be, who you will be with, what foods will be available and what your particular triggers are when it comes to the tendency to overeat. Then build an event eating program and STICK TO IT.
Timed for Good Results The timing of an occasion can trigger overeating if you aren’t careful. For instance, if the gathering is later than your standard mealtime, consider having a wholesome snack prior to the occasion so that you don’t get there hungry. This can help you steer clear of eating more than you had prepared to eat.
Stay Hydrated Drink plenty of water and low calorie drinks. Limit alcoholic beverages as these alcoholic drinks are full of empty calories and dehydrate you.
Avoid Deprivation Don’t deprive yourself of foods you love to eat. Just opt for smaller portions.
Distance Makes the Will Grow Stronger Try not to stand around the food table. This will help you avoid mindless snacking.
Limit Desserts There always seems to be many delicious desserts, but limit yourself to one dessert serving. If you want to try a couple of different desserts, then decrease the portion of each dessert so they are the equivalent of just one total serving.
Be Aware In the busyness of everyday life, it’s too easy to lose track of what you’ve eaten. So slow down and be aware of what you are eating. Eating more slowly also helps you be more satisfied with smaller portions.
Maintain Proper Nutrition Most of the time the food we eat at special occasions is not the most nutritious. Food is the fuel for our bodies. Some of it is healthy fuel and some not so healthy. Unfortunately, proper nutrition is difficult to obtain at most gatherings. To help counteract this, we highly encourage an assortment of nutritional supplements to support and maintain optimum health.

The formula for losing weight is simple: eat less and exercise more. But, it’s not really all that simple, is it? So many factors must be taken into consideration . Motivatation, time and just life in general can all get in the way when you are attempting to lose weight.
You really do need to be committed to doing whatever it takes to lose the weight. Here are ten points s that should go into your weight loss plan .
1. Eat breakfast. This keeps you from getting too hungry later and then losing control over what you opt to eat later in the day. Try eating a high fiber cereal as this fills you up and lasts longer, allowing you to stay out of the fridge for longer periods!
2. Stock your refrigerator and larder with healthy foods and snacks and limit high-fat, high-salt snacks such as potato chips and cookies. Being specially careful when you grocery shop helps you stock the right choices at home. Just do not purchase any high fat snacks anymore.
3. Fill up on Fiber. Eat foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains. The fibers in these foods will fill you up leaving less room for unhealthy choices. Your body will feel so much more healthy and will provide you with a huge energy gain
4. Don’t fall into bad habits on weekends. Numerous people will follow a strict diet on weekdays only to fall back into eating more (unhealthy) on the weekends as a reward for “being good” all week. Unfortunately, this can cause you to put back on the weight you may have lost during the week. If you really want to reward yourself then pick an item that is not food related. A good pair of walking shoes, a manicure, a good motivational book.
5. Watch portion sizes. Your perception of what a portion size should be and a “true” serving size can differ dramatically. Measure your portions accurately , especially when you first start your healthy eating regime. One nifty trick is to eat on a smaller plate, so it seems like you have a huge serving.
6. Set lifestyle goals – not weight loss goals. Your commitment to eating healthy foods does lead to healthy weight loss — gradually . Looking at your weight day-to-day can cause discouragement and will make many people give up and go back to unhealthy food choices. Remember to take your measurements, as you will find if you are not losing pounds you could well be losing inches.
7. Take healthy snacks with you when you go on road trips. Grab healthy granola bars, bananas, apples and other fruit to stop the enticement of visiting a fast food outlet.
8. Don’t avoid the foods you love . If you absolutely love chocolate, go ahead and have a small bite instead of a whole bar! Avoid eating your “splurges” every day. Save them for when you really crave them!
9. Start moving. Exercise is the key to long term weight loss. You’ve heard the saying, “Move it or lose it.” Too true! Even walking whenever you can will help the pounds fade away.
10. Keep a journal. Jotting down everything that you eat, when and how much you exercise and your moods will keep you on track and motivated to continue the course. Keeping track of your water consumption is a great idea too.
Weight loss is achieved by both diet and exercise. It is also achieved by persistence. If you “fall off the wagon” one day, get yourself up and continue your healthy lifestyle the next. Don’t give up! Don’t beat yourself up if you slip, just systematically make the right choices and you will succeed and achieve your goals .

It seems that nowadays everyone is trying to lose weight in one way or another. They are trying fad diets, miracle pills, all liquid diets or anything else that seems easy, quick or effective. Ultimately we all come to the conclusion that we need to eat less, eat right and exercise more. Losing weight is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. Once we can come to that conclusion, then we can start losing weight the proper way and keep it off in the future. This lifestyle change is not easy, but is necessary if we want to achieve maximum results that will last and lead to many health benefits in the process.
The first, and probably most important step to losing weight, are your goals. Set realistic goals for yourself. Maybe you want to fit in the pants you used to wear in high school or you have a special occasion coming up that you would like to slim down for. Make sure that whatever the motivating factor is, that you give yourself enough time to achieve that goal or else you are setting yourself up for failure. If the motivating factor is only weeks away, this is obviously not the time to set a weight loss goal of thirty pounds. However, if you have a few months to a year to prepare, then you are more likely to achieve your goal and continue working toward your ultimate weight loss goal which should ultimately be to keep off the weight by maintaining your healthy regime.
Routine becomes extremely important when it comes to losing weight. If you allow yourself to slack off, then you will not be able to achieve your goals. Excuses/complaints should be cut down to a minimum. Just because you have a busy schedule, it doesn’t mean that you can’t keep up with your routine. It may help to have a friend or loved one there to encourage you, however, you must hold yourself accountable for your routine. Keep it going; don’t give yourself excuses to skip days.
Losing weight has many health benefits and you should keep this in mind. From helping your body internally like heart and circulation benefits, losing weight can also help with physical appearance and helping with foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis by causing less strain on your feet. There are a plethora of reasons why losing weight is a good idea, but it ultimately comes down to you. You need to set your own goals, keep up with your routine and hold yourself accountable. If weight loss is what you truly want, then weight loss is what you will get, but you have to make the decision to change your lifestyle. Are you ready to make that change?
